Six Closed Doors
I grew up in a small town in India where the path for women was deliberately narrow. Before I turned eighteen, six things had already been decided for me — no maths after 10th grade, no technical education, no corporate job, only a girls’ college, no conversation with any man before marriage, and an arranged marriage to someone I had never spoken to.
I said yes to all of it. Not from weakness. From clarity. I looked at the world as it existed and made a decision: I would work within it. And build anyway.
When my husband and I moved to America, I arrived with a Ph.D. in nutrition and cardiovascular disease research — and hit another closed door. A visa restriction blocked the clinical research role I’d been selected for.
I didn’t stop. I just asked a different question: what can I build?
The preschool came first — 35 staff, 200 children. Then the brokerage. Then the syndications, the coaching, the books, the podcast, the stage. None of it was supposed to exist. That’s exactly why it does.
Every professional Dr. Meetu works with has their own version of a closed door — a life that looks successful from the outside and feels incomplete from the inside. She does this work because she has been that person.
